An attack of candida is not easy to
diagnose properly and even your local health professional is prone to treating
for something completely unrelated.
In our digestive tract live trillions of
bacteria and no one knows for sure but it is estimated there are up to one
thousand completely different types.
Some of these are well known and have been
identified as crucial elements to aid digestion but there are plenty that on
the face of it are bad for us but only when they multiply too much.
Fortunately this rarely happens and the
theory as to why we have both good and bad is that the constant battle between
them all is what gives us a strong immune system.
Being on a long course of antibiotics is
not good at all as these attack both the offending bacteria as well as the
good. This is one reason some people are susceptible to unrelated health
problems when they are supposedly cured and released from hospital.
If you wonder exactly what is candida it’s simply just one of those thousand microflora
living in our gut that for one reason or other but usually diet related, gets out of control.
Because it can reveal itself in a hundred
different ways it is often very difficult to diagnose but when it is there are
a number of remedies to try.
It may be a bit like closing the door after
the horse has bolted but probiotics introduce healthy extra doses of bacteria
that helps maintain levels of the bad ones. So there is an argument that a
daily probiotic may reduce the risk of a candida outbreak in the first place.
If it’s too late and you have already been
diagnosed with it then there are a number of supplements that seem to have
worked well where mainstream prescribed products may not have.
As well as these supplements there are
ancient old probiotic drinks such as kefir that have eased digestive problems
for many over generations.
