Constipation
is not a topic which people are usually comfortable discussing but with the
average adult said to have around 5-15 pounds of waste matter in their bowels,
it is something which probably occurs more than we would like.
To help prevent constipation, the colon and the intestines should be thoroughly cleansed on a regular basis. There are a number of different ways you can do this, each with its own set of pros and cons and it is worth researching each method fully before deciding which treatment would be best to use. Here, we have looked at some of the more common treatment options.

Here, we have looked at some of the more common treatment options.
Colonic Irrigation
A
painless and well known method of cleansing the colon. The colon is flushed out with low pressured,
warm water (sometimes with the addition of herbs) alongside the stomach being
massaged to assist with the release of the compacted waste matter.
Enemas
Liquid
or gas is injected into the anus forcing the lower intestinal tract to expand
and release any faecal matter within.
This treatment is known to work a lot faster than laxatives and so is
preferred by many as a form of treatment for constipation. It is also sometimes used ahead of medical
procedures to help clear any build up in the intestines.
Herbal Supplements
Aloe
Vera and Magnesium supplements are known for increasing bowel movements and fibre
supplements are also good, although the same effects could be achieved
naturally by increasing the amount of high fibre food in your diet.
Laxatives
Probably
the most well known treatment for constipation, although these should only be
used when all other methods have been exhausted. A very fast working solution although overuse
of laxatives can lead to something known as a ‘lazy bowel’ where the bowel
cannot operate on its own.
Oxygen-based Cleansers
Oxygen-based
cleansers work by breaking down intestinal build up, encouraging the natural
release of the waste. They convert any
solid faecal matter within the intestinal tracts into liquid or gas form,
making it easier to pass. A popularcleanser is OxyPowder.
