Candida Balancing – What’s It All About?

Candida is the short name for Candidacies, a condition which is essentially a yeast imbalance in the body, typically an overgrowth.
Candida is naturally present in a small amount within the body and is in fact a friendly organism which serves to help the digestive system.  However, it is not intended to overgrow and when it does it can cause a variety of health issues such as:

§  Chronic fatigue and general feelings of exhaustion
§  Digestive issues such as bloating and constipation
§  Difficulty concentrating and poor memory
§  Autoimmune diseases such as Ulcerative colitis, Psorasis and Rheumatoid arthritis
§  Vaginal infections and urinary tract infections
§  Skin issues such as eczema

Candida can be kept in check with a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle and the good bacteria in your digestive system generally stop candida from overproducing.  However, the body’s various systems are extremely complex and it only takes the smallest change to throw them out of sync.

Some of the more common causes include:

§  Drinking a large amount of alcohol
§  Taking oral contraceptives
§  Having a diet high in refined carbohydrates and sugar
§  A high stress lifestyle
§  Antibiotics which incidentally kill off the good bacteria

Because of the various problems a candida overgrowth can cause, it is important that you regularly ‘top up’ or ‘balance’ the friendly bacteria in your digestive system.  You can begin the process by altering your diet, to reduce the amount of sugar and refined products you consume.  However this is a slow process and you may not see any benefits until around three to six months after making the changes.

To ensure that you are regularly redressing the balance of bacteria in your digestive system, it is a good idea to take a probiotic.  There are a huge number of probiotic products on the market and knowing which one to choose can be tricky.  Products such as Threelac areknown to have good results in most people, although it is worth noting that not everyone sees a benefit from every product and so you may need to try one or two until you find the one that works best for you.
